Shoulder Pain and Common Shoulder Problems

Most shoulder problems fall into four major categories:

  • Tendon inflammation (bursitis or tendinitis) or tendon tear
  • Instability
  • Arthritis
  • Fracture (broken bone)

Non-surgical treatment such as rest, physical therapy, or injections can help to alleviate pain and increase motion.  Certain types of shoulder problems may require surgery fairly early or can be used when non-surgical is not responding well.

Surgery can involve arthroscopy to clean scar tissue or fix torn tissues, or traditional open procedures for larger reconstructions of the shoulder.
